Solidarity School

Join NEW Houston and OPIN for a weekend‑long intensive where we prepare for May Day 2026: No work. No school. No shopping. Over two days, we’ll build the skills, discipline, and shared strategy needed to confront rising authoritarianism, deepen worker power, and organize actions that put workers over billionaires.

Through training, reflection, and hands‑on practice — including an optional community canvass — participants will learn how to move people into action, coordinate nonviolent direct action, and strengthen cross‑movement solidarity.

Whether you’re new to organizing or a seasoned leader, Solidarity School is where we align, train, and get ready to win together.

Fearless at Work - Community Training

Help to support and protect workers in the face of ICE Raids! Join us to participate in the upcoming Fearless at Work Community Defense Training and Canvass on Wednesday May 6th, 2026, from 6:30-8pm at Gulf Coast AFL-CIO (2506 Sutherland St, Houston, TX 77023!

What is Fearless at Work?

Fearless at Work is an initiative targeting business owners to equip and empower them with the tools, resources, and information to make their workplace safe for employees in the face of ICE raids and potential immigration enforcement actions in the workplace. Business owners have the power — and the responsibility — to stand up for the people who keep their doors open. In moments like this, silence helps tyranny. But action builds solidarity. Businesses that stand with labor help create safer, more resilient communities and protect their workforce from unjust targeting.

Who should come to this event?

Are you concerned about ICE raids in your community and across the country? Are you angry about the unlawful and unconstitutional violence that ICE is committing against hardworking Americans of all backgrounds? Do you believe that employees deserve to feel safe at work, regardless of their immigration status? If so, this training is for you! ICE raids and audits create fear that spreads far beyond undocumented workers. These raids destabilize workplaces, disrupt operations, and instill fear among entire teams, documented and undocumented alike. As a community member, you can help to ensure that businesses are ready to assert their constitutional rights.

What to expect

Community Defense Training at Gulf Coast AFL-CIO (2506 Sutherland St.) presented by NEW Houston, Organized Power in Numbers, and Houston Young Active Labor Leaders.

Let's join together in solidarity to support our neighbors and show that ICE is not welcome in Houston!

Fearless at Work - Canvass & Social

Fearless At Work: Community Canvass + Post‑Canvass Social

Our communities deserve safety, dignity, and the power to stand up for one another — and that starts with us. Join NEW Houston for an afternoon of community canvassing focused on sharing rights education, connecting with neighbors, and building the kind of solidarity that keeps working people strong.

We’ll kick off with a quick training, so every volunteer feels confident and supported. Then we’ll head out in pairs to talk with residents about workplace rights, due‑process protections, and how to get involved in local efforts that defend our communities.

After canvassing, we’ll come back together at the 8th Wonder Brewery for a relaxed social hour to debrief, build relationships, and celebrate the work we’re doing together. Whether you’re a seasoned organizer or brand‑new to canvassing, you are welcome and needed.

What to expect:

  • Brief training and materials provided

  • Canvassing in teams

  • Snacks, music, and community hangout afterward
